Richard Castle is my other love. My husband knows it, he accepts it. Last week I finished reading Heat Rises, the 3rd book in the Nikki Heat series. This was, hands-down, the best so far!I love how it picks up only a few months after where we last left Nikki & Rook, and you're thrown right into another murder. As this one started, it would remind you of when, on the show, Castle went to the Hamptons for the summer and returned to NYC without alerting Kate - not surprising since the character is the one writing the series. The return was just one of many details that overlap with the show.
In keeping with the mystery and good cop vs bad cop, this book isn't lacking in drama or suspense. Whether it's connecting the pieces with the priests murder (yes, priest), the secretive S&M club, finding herself up against one of the city's biggest drug lords, victims with extreme TENS burns (still makes my skin crawl), being stripped of her badge, getting chased through the city during one of the coldest winters on record and ultimately facing off against one of the biggest bosses in the NYPD - it's intense.
The next book in the series, Frozen Heat, will be released on September 11th. I can't wait!!!
